Prof. Laurence Pickup

Professor Pickup, for over 35 years, has been the gender aspects of mobility; and the impact of the relatively lower mobility of women than men on their access to opportunities and life chances. For 32 years, his has predominantly been in a European perspective; for the last 18 years with the New Member states and Candidate countries of the EU.Professor Pickup’s work involves two roles: consultant and academic. As a consultant, he is the International Director for Vectos; a planning consultancy based in central London; although his working base is central Italy. His academic role is as Professor of European Transport Policy at the Centre for Transport Research at Aberdeen University, Scotland. His work is assessment of policy effectiveness and the evaluation of new and proposed schemes; and awareness-raising strategies. His experience involves both consultancy projects to engage with citizens and stakeholders; and statistical analysis.
